More than a museum — a community-built legacy of the Redlands Coast’s past and present.
The Redlands Coast Museum exists to collect, preserve, honour, display and share the rich history of artefacts and stories of the people of the region, and our diverse culture and heritage. We aim to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Redlands Coast’s past, create a sense of belonging, and provide an engaging space for learning, connection, and community involvement.
What began as a volunteer-led project to save farm equipment, has grown into a vibrant, community-driven institution showcasing over 50+ years of local heritage.
Real people, real stories.
Our mission is to be the trusted keepers of our community’s social history. To safeguard and showcase the significant artefacts and personal stories from the past and present.
By leveraging both physical and digital spaces, we provide engaging and educational experiences through our collections, exhibitions and events. We believe every visitor has the potential to enrich our culture and heritage. By celebrating people’s stories and building new narratives, we preserve our community’s heritage for future generations.
Redlands Coast Museum opened in 1972 as the Redland Musuem, thanks to the Rotary Club of Cleveland and a determined group of volunteers led by local, Norman Dean.
Originally focused on old vehicles and farm machinery, the collection has since grown to include thousands of artefacts, capturing everyday life on the Redlands Coast reflecting the stories of our community and its people, but also serving as a vibrant hub for discovery, interaction, and cultural exchange – a must-visit destination on the Redlands Coast.
The first building? A single shed built in 1972 — now, the museum includes multiple exhibition wings, a research library, a dedicated Children’s Toy Hall of Fame and various community spaces.
