Join this hands-on leather belt making workshop and learn traditional leathercraft techniques from start to finish. As part of AdventureFest 2026, Redlands Coast Museum invites you to embark on The Heritage Artisan Faire Workshops: a hands-on journey through heritage skills, artistry, and self-discovery. Vintage trades meet modern creativity in a series of immersive workshops that celebrate craftsmanship as a living link between past and present.

Step back in time and try your hand at a craft once used to create beautifully detailed leather goods.

Create a timeless accessory using traditional leatherworking techniques in this hands-on heritage-inspired workshop. Learn what goes into crafting a truly high-quality leather belt as you design, tool and assemble your own personalised belt from start to finish.

Working with natural vegetable-tanned leather, participants will be guided through the key skills of leathercraft, including decorative tooling, edge finishing and belt assembly. You’ll leave with a beautifully made belt that is both functional and uniquely your own.

This workshop is beginner-friendly and ideal for anyone curious about traditional leathercraft or looking to build confidence in working with leather.

What you will learn

• Design & Tooling: Create and tool your own design onto natural veg-tanned leather
• Edge Finishing: Learn how to slick and finish edges for a professional result
• Assembly: Attach the buckle, keeper and belt components correctly
• Perfect Fit: Customise the belt to your exact size

Outcome

Participants will complete a 38mm wide luxury leather belt, handcrafted and ready to wear with pride.

About the Facilitator – Cherryl McIntyre

Cheryl is a Brisbane-based leather artist with over 40 years’ experience, blending traditional techniques with innovative designs. She has taught leathercraft to students of all ages and abilities, both locally and internationally, and runs her own label, Exquisite Leather.

Cherryl is a founding member of the Leathercrafters Association of Qld and has coordinated the International Leather Conferences “Dimensions in Leather.” In 2008, she became the first non-American to receive the prestigious Al Stohlman Award for her exceptional skill and dedication to the craft.

Her workshops cover pattern making, cutting, colouring, and creating personal designs, welcoming everyone from beginners to advanced students.
