Heritage Soapmaking Workshop

Overview

2026 Heritage Artisan Faire Workshops – Rediscovering the Past Through Craft.

Heritage Soapmaking Workshop

Step back in time and explore the traditional art of soap-making in this hands-on heritage workshop. Learn about the history of soap, the role of natural oils and ingredients, and the science behind this centuries-old craft.

Following a live demonstration, you’ll create your own batch of cold process soap under guided instruction. Each participant will take home approximately 10 bars of handmade soap along with a complete soap-making kit, including PPE, a reusable professional mould, heat-safe jugs and tools, detailed recipe sheets, and a workshop handbook—so you can continue crafting at home.

1st Session – Morning 10.00am – 1.00pm (3 hours)

2nd Session – Evening 5.30pm – 8.30pm (3 hours)

As part of AdventureFest 2026, Redlands Coast Museum invites you to embark on The Heritage Artisan Faire Workshops: a hands-on journey through heritage skills, artistry, and self-discovery. Vintage trades meet modern creativity in a series of immersive workshops that celebrate craftsmanship as a living link between past and present

Step back in time and discover the art of traditional soap-making in this hands-on heritage workshop.

Participants will explore the history of soap-making, the role of natural oils and ingredients, and the science behind this centuries-old craft. Following a live demonstration, participants will create their own batch of cold process soap under guided instruction.

Each participant will have the opportunity to make approx. 10 bars of handmade soap and leave with a complete soap-making kit, enabling you to continue the practice at home. The kit includes personal protective equipment (PPE), a reusable professional mould, heat-safe jugs and tools made from appropriate materials, detailed recipe sheets, and a workshop handbook.

All materials are selected to support safe and accessible home soap-making using readily available ingredients.

No prior experience is needed. This workshop is calm, practical, and focused on learning a skill that is useful, satisfying, and deeply rooted in tradition.
