Blacksmithing Beginners – Decorative Hook with Twisted Heart Workshop

Step back in time and discover the foundational art of blacksmithing in this one of a kind workshop. Learn to operate a forge, work with traditional tools and an anvil, and create your own decorative hook with twisted heart. Gain practical skills while learning techniques including hot cutting, punching, tapering, scrolling and bending and twisting.

9.00am – 1.00pm

As part of AdventureFest 2026, Redlands Coast Museum invites you to embark on The Heritage Artisan Faire Workshops: a hands-on journey through heritage skills, artistry, and self-discovery. Vintage trades meet modern creativity in a series of immersive workshops that celebrate craftsmanship as a living link between past and present.

Step back in time and experience the craft of blacksmithing in the Museum’s historic Blacksmith Shed.  In the tradition of why the Museum Blacksmith Shed was set up over fifty years ago, the Redlands Coast Museum blacksmith team are offering this unique experience to learn about this heritage trade.

Create a twisted bottle opener while learning techniques including punching, drawing out, swaging and twisting. Facilitated by Mark Wyrebiak will guide participants in forging techniques to complete a practical project.

Designed for beginners aged 18+, these small-group workshops (limited to 5 participants) allow for plenty of one-on-one guidance as you learn to work safely with the forge, anvil and traditional tools.
