President - Susan Hoy
I have been a member of the Redlands Coast Museum for a short time in comparison to others, but I have a very strong commitment to ethos and vision of the museum. I am nominating for the role of President, after having held the position of secretary. I look forward to this challenging role and if elected would value the support of staff, committee member, volunteers and members.
Throughout my working career I have held many and varied positions with the field of education. I trained as secondary teaching commencing my career in Gordonvale just south of Cairns. From there my husband, also a teacher and I have been transferred to other locations within the state both city and regional. I was lucky enough to teach at Cleveland State High School from 1976 until 1980 and then again from 1982-1985.
I moved out of secondary education for 10 years and worked in the area of Medical Education. I first took up a position with the University of Queensland as a Medical Education Officer at Nambour Hospital and then became to Accreditation Manager responsible for accrediting Queensland Hospitals to train Interns. After this I went onto to work as the Queensland Quality Assurance and Continuing Professional Development officer for the Royal College of General Practitioners.
In 1997, I returned to secondary teaching until I retired. A very diverse and challenging career path which taught me many valuable lessons regarding dealing with people.
After retirement, I have held the following volunteer positions:
Vice President – John Kunde
In nominating for the 2026 committee, I feel I can bring my own life experience to the role of Vice President. I was born at St Anne’s hospital in Cleveland and have lived all of my life in the local area having grown up on a farm in Birkdale. I have a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from QUT and a Graduate Diploma in Business Management with 42 years business experience. I have volunteered at the museum for nearly three years working in Collections, Guiding and Displays. My motivation in nominating for this role is to assist the President and the Management Committee and promote the museum to the community.
Treasurer - Michael Watson
I began my career in the construction industry, where I trained as a builder and earned my qualifications as a carpenter. Working in construction taught me the value of hard work, teamwork, and careful financial planning, as managing budgets and resources was a critical part of the job. I hold a Certificate 4 in Building and Construction (Building) and another in Estimating, which provided me with a strong foundation in managing project costs and financial oversight.
After an unexpected injury in 2018, I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder, which has left me permanently disabled. This life-changing event led me to explore new avenues, and I discovered a deep interest in finance. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to learning more about financial management and security analysis. I’m currently completing a Certificate 4 in Accounting and Bookkeeping, further strengthening my ability to manage and oversee financial matters.
When I’m not working, I enjoy staying active through exercise or spending time outdoors. I also cherish the time I spend with my wife and two children; those moments are what keep me grounded and remind me of what’s truly important.
As I join this vibrant community, I’m looking forward to continuing to contribute my skills in financial management, especially in the Treasurer role once again. I’m here to listen, learn, and help ensure our resources are used effectively to support our shared goals.
Secretary - Jill Tilson

I attended Technical College and obtained an “A grade” certificate in metallic arc welding. Later I completed a “Civil Drawing and Design” course. After Army service, I operated a successful smash-repair business before moving into a partnership in an engineering business constructing horse floats. Several years later, and for a complete change, I started driving a delivery truck then moved on to general shop and property maintenance with the same firm. With the introduction of computers in business, I again attended college for three years achieving qualifications in Systems Design and Programming and moved into the field of Computer Programming. Approximately three years prior to my retirement in 1988, I took over as Manager of the Computer Department.
I have been a volunteer in some capacity since retirement in 1988. I was a Justice of the Peace for 25 years, and since 1984 I have been involved in a Car Club and held every executive and committee position. I was a State Committee member of a large ex-service organisation in Brisbane for 12 years, and was also trained as a Welfare Officer, visiting ex-servicemen in hospital. I became a Museum Volunteer in 2013 whilst repairing the “Polyphon”. I was initially involved in general maintenance and Blacksmithing, of which I am still an attendee every Saturday morning, and was elected to the Management Committee at the 2017 AGM. After a year or two spell I accepted the position of Committee Member again at the 2023 AGM. The majority of my time spent at the museum is primarily with the management of the museum’s computers, network equipment; basically all related technology based devices and tasks. I “look after” the security system including the security cameras; operate the sound/lighting/projector for our plays, and keep the clocks wound up – if I’ve got time!
